I.B.M. Takes On Jeopardy
Wednesday, April 29th, 2009
I.B.M. is making an A.I. to compete with human contestants from the “Jeopardy!” show.
The New York Times is reporting over here that I.B.M. will announce on Monday that it is in the final stages of completing this incredible artificial intelligence.
Anyone who knows a little something about artificial intelligence will understand just how hard it is to create any sort of program which can deal with human phrases. A computer can answer questions like 2 + 2 but once you phrase a question using human terms it becomes a whole lot harder.
Out of interest, I threw a couple of questions into Google. One was “what color is barack obama’s hair?” – turns out it knew. Scary stuff, queue Skynet.
Hashima Island Japan
Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

This is incredible, an island rich in coal which the Japanese mined from 1887 to 1974. They covered the entire tiny island with sky rises in which miners would live.
You can check out an article on the place here. Strangely enough its a Viceland article.
